Guys! Guys!! The comedy continues.
This is definitely becoming a hilarious Stephen Colbert VS arch-nemesis Rain situation.
Thank you for viewing this comedy with me. It's fun having you guys around to laugh with. So with that in mind, there was an update in my ARCH NEMSIS lolsy situation that I thought was too good to keep to myself. I now have a visual demonstration of how nutty one of the coincidences has been (not the obscure one though. That was episode one and this is from episode two! lolll). Get ready to nod and laugh with me.
I really have to stop watching that anime. I thought the damage would be over but the second episode made me CRACK UP LAUGHING all over again. I thought I'd share a perfect VISUAL example (without actually spoiling my prologue) so that you guys can see exactly why I have been going insane from all the crazy coincidences. XD
Here is a screencap I took:
Oh look at the anime image on the left. A nice, run-down, weed-tastic swimming pool!
And then ohhh look at the photo I took IN APRIL 2012 (yes, look at the date!) of the weed-infested, run-down tennis court that I was basing my prologue on.
I mean come onnnnn, right! What are the chances!
There are of course different circumstances for the run-down sport areas in the anime and my story but still pretty hilariously similiar, right? XD
Gosh. I took that photo after I met up with my old Japanese teacher & class for brunch. I was walking down the street and saw that tennis court and almost jumped up and down because it was the PERFECT replica of what I had seen in my head for my fic prologue. I then proceeded to try and take photos through the fence without drawing too much attention (this was on a road, people!). I was so proud of my ninja skills!
That nauuuuughty arch-nemesis anime is sucking all the fun out of my tale! LOL! I will get youuuu! *shakes fist*
But do you see what I mean now, guys? *long sigh* =P
The good news is I'm not taking it to heart anymore. I was worried it would put a damper on my muse but this morning I drafted the CUTEST scene between Yun and Jae and it made me all mushy and gooey inside and I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU GUYS TO SEE IT! T___T<3
But so this post isn't just me laughing at myself, I thought I should make myself useful and tell you some things about my new fic! =D
Background: Let me lay it down for you: I am a tennis nut. I follow players on twitter and facebook, I follow tennis organisations, I stay up till crazy hours to watch live matches occurring in different time zones--ironic since I hate all other sport. (This body was not made for sport. This body was made to trip over itself and run away from flying objects that want to smack into my head. In PE class I once hit a student in her boobs with a frisbee...though my friend hit the teacher's head, so I felt better LOL.) But somehow my love for tennis has survived against all odds. So every year since 2008, I’ve said to my friend: I want to write a tennis fic with YunJae! “You should!” she said and I agreed wholeheartedly… and then groaned because even though the drive was there, the pieces just weren’t falling into place. But after yeeaaaars of moving things around in my head, I've got it! HALLELUJAHHHHH.
So with that out of the way, here are the:
NEW FIC NFAQs!! (ie. not actually frequently asked questions XD)
What is the name? // Across the Line.
What is it about? // It is a YunJae fic with a dash of tennis. I can't tell you all the themes without spoiling it... But there are secrets and jealousy and love/hate and gorgeous friendships and nostalgia and lots of silly jokes. It isn't crack though. It's cracky, but it isn't crack (angst is like oxygen to me...). XD
What genre is it? // Aside from the tennis setting, it is mostly just something I want to be fun. If there is anything I could wish for this fic it would be for it to have heart. I want to be friends with these characters and hopefully readers will too. It will have its angsty parts for sure (mmm, angst!), but above all I want it to be easy to write and something you can read in any mood. ^^
I know what you're like, trying to make us cry. Is there anything you should be warning us about with this new fic? // Not at the moment. But I do have one warning: I hope you can cope with questionable jokes from a naughty character and his very naughty whiteboard XD.
If I have no interest in sport will this be the worst fic ever? // Sport fiction can be cliché because there are limited directions you can go with it apart from the obvious trope of: I want to advance to blahblah tournament and WIN, BITCHES! Yay for that character, but what's in it for you? And yeh, sport-related stories can be so BORING for people who don’t like that particular sport. I mean, if you don't like sport, there's nothing worse than reading a fanfic full of sport references you don't understand and testosterone flying everywhere. I struggled for ages to find a plot that felt right and avoided a lot of the that stuff (though a whiff of testosterone couldn't be avoided. It's YUNJAE, come on. Rawr ^_~). But after a lot of brainstorming, I was relieved to find a character-based plot that just happened to have tennis as an element in the background. So never fear! I’ve always been about 'character-based stories' rather than 'plot-based stories'--you all know how much I love my emotions! XD. In summary: Across the Line is about YunJae not tennis. As for the parts that unavoidably mention tennis-related things, I'll try my best to keep those to a minimum. My so-far failsafe method has been changing tennis words in my head to cricket or rugby references (sports that elude me) and if I am not yawning, I know it's probably okay to include. So...hopefully no one feels alienated with the story at all. ^^
Yehhh I dunno... I'm still not sure this fic is for me. // Okay, let me put it this way. if you can answer the following two questions as YES then this fic is definitely for you. XDDD
A) DOES THIS IMAGE MAKE YOUR UNMENTIONABLE PARTS QUIVER?
(Answer "Yes" - Good, read this fic. / Answer "No" - Are you crazy? Look at him! XD)
B) DOES THIS IMAGE MAKE YOU LAUGH?
(Answer "Yes" - Just you wait then! XD // Answer "No" - Oh man, it's Chunface! If he can't, we're screwed. XD)
What about TB;MS, there's still 2-3 chaps left? // I wrote the prologue and drafted the basic plot of Across the Line over a year ago. I didn’t really touch it after that because I wanted to focus on TB;MS completely and get that one finished before I distracted myself with new characters I'd have to immerse myself in. But TB;MS is finally coming to a finish and I feel there is no danger of 'forgetting' about TB;MS with only 2 chapters left. It just means I can balance my emotions much better. Where I am up to with TB;MS requires me to...basically cry. And sometimes you don't want to put yourself into someone's head if they are going to make you depressed for the time it takes to finish their part. I don't want to risk my already dodgy mental health. Therefore, having a FUN fic to write gives me a happier place I can escape to inbetween writing out those sadder parts. Yay. (And that does not mean TB;MS has a sad ending. I can tell you now that I don't write chaptered fics unless they have happy endings. That's not a spoiler, that's just always been my personal policy.)
When will you be posting this new fic? // Once I have already written at least 3 chapters I am satisfied with so that I can guarantee weekly posts. At the moment I am finishing the 2nd chap off. So hopefully next week there will be some legit action.
